24 Works on Paper Artists: Katherine Liontas-Warren

To give insight into the works included in the 24 Works on Paper exhibition, Ryan Pack has interviewed some of the participating artists about their work in the show. The exhibition continues through August 8 at IAO Gallery, 811 N Broadway in downtown OKC. It will then travel the state for a full year.

Katherine Liontas-Warren

Do you listen to anything while you create your work? What inspires you (Be it art, music, books, movies, etc..)?
I do not listen to music when I make art.

If you could write an artist's statement for you piece, what would it be?
My intention is to create prints that are expressive, modeled, and rich in color application. The mystery and the mood of this print describe the beauty of mark making and bold use of value ranges. The physical process of scratching into the matrix is a very satisfying and rewarding experience allowing great freedom and spontaneity. The burr of the scratch holds the ink and creates a velvety ink surface while the wiping away of ink creates a beautiful gradient from light to dark.
