12x12 Artist: Samantha Lamb

In order to get prepared for the 12x12 Art Show and Sale September 26, I interviewed a few of the artists to find out a little more about their pieces and to delve into the mind of a 12x12 artist. I wanted to find out how these artists conceived of their 12x12 pieces and if the size limitation affected their concept or process. Here is what they had to say…

Samantha Lamb:

Lamb found the size constraints to be a bit of a challenge, but one that led her to a new creation. Lamb photographed her image specifically for the show, and thus intended it to be 12x12. She says, however, that the image had a mind of its own and, “simply wanted to be an 8x10.” In order to solve her dilemma, Lamb created a shadow box for the piece, adding hundreds of cut out hearts to the piece. Although she normally works in a larger scale, Lamb viewed the small size required by the 12x12 show to be an opportunity to create something out of the norm for her work.
