Since this week the curators selected work for Momentum OKC, I have been thinking a lot about how juried shows affect the artists who enter them. I wonder about each word we write to let the artists know if they "got in" or not, hoping our messages are respectful, but indicate our confidence in the fair, transparent jury process we have established.
We know there is simply not room to hang everything and we probably couldn't get a significant audience to see everything anyway (our audience wants some filtering to already be done so they see a smaller, maybe focused group of artwork).
So, this article is interesting-- from an artist who has served as teacher and juror-- considering all sides of the selection process.
