National policy: investment in the arts

Artists and arts leaders across the country drafted “A New Framework” for art and public purpose. Beyond just asking for more money for the arts, the organizers, Cultural Policy Working Group, are pushing for increased community-based artwork.

Community-based artwork is created in dialogue with local communities and usually relates to social-justice or educational efforts. Read more about this important field on the Community Arts Network’s
website.

The New Framework presses for arts as part of community renewal efforts, not a sideline or afterthought. “Artists’ work offers a proven way to cultivate imagination and empathy, essential to national recovery and sustainable community.”

Do you see the artists amidst your community’s economic recovery and sustainability? Could we encourage artists more as a part of our “common good?”
